REAPPEARS THIS PERFECT DAY

Fall 2022

SEASON is proud to present the gallery’s fourth show of artwork by Dylan Neuwirth.  REAPPEARS THIS PERFECT DAY will open Sunday October 9, and continue to December 31, 2022.  There will be an opening reception with the artist Sunday October 9, 2-5pm.  The gallery is located at 1222 NE Ravenna Blvd.  There is ample free street parking; nearby bus stops include 45, 67, and 73, and light rail stop is Roosevelt.  Gallery hours are by appointment only after opening receptions, please contact robert@season.cz to arrange a visit.

Within the systemic collapse of the region’s zoning, housing, humanitarian, and fiscal equality degradations, Neuwirth has extracted a specific image and made it universal to the topic(s).  This singular image is not only from the region, it is the region. A snapshot taken from the height of Seattle’s protests sat untouched for over two years until finally sculpted into a map depicting typical landscape features that define the Pacific Northwest.

Working with a team at the University of Wyoming, Neuwirth took the snapshots and rendered them dimensional using a 3D printing process.  This process turned the photographic pixels into physical peaks and valleys which were then cast in bronze as a way to preserve the experience. By giving it both dimension and weight, Neuwirth has made a memory into a solid artifact.

The show title is a blending of The Perfect Day by Ira Levin (published 1970) and a line from “New Opened Eyes” by Tracey Thorn from her 1982 album A Distant Shore.  Both the book, a science fiction novel about characters within a technology based dystopia, and the song, a lament on an ended romance, deal with a struggle born out of neglect and denial and end with a tenuous optimism.  So too does the work in this show begin from abandonment only to manifest into a variety of media, all of which point to an acceptable means of survival.

Born in Athens, Georgia, Dylan Neuwirth lives and works in Tacoma, Washington.  His work has been in numerous gallery and museum shows across the country, and was featured in Lust For Light:  Illuminated Works by Hannah Stouffer, 2018.
